Belarusian delegation takes part in ECOSOC session

The substantive session of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) that opened in Geneva on 1 July is attended by a Belarusian delegation headed by Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva Mikhail Khvostov.

In his speech the head of the Belarusian delegation expressed concern about the existence of unilateral coercive measures in the system of international trade and economic relations and the politicization of the WTO accession process.

“The realities of today's economic landscape such as unilateral trade and economic measures, bringing the issues into the process of the WTO accession that have nothing to do with the WTO, "monopolization" of “the pass" to the WTO, continue to arouse grave concerns. The use of unilateral trade bans to exert pressure in non-economic issues not only runs counter to a number of international legal norms, undermines trust between the countries, but is, in fact, open interference in the internal affairs of independent states,” Mikhail Khvostov said.
