Belarus Defense Ministry sets up civil-military group for UN mission in Lebanon


         The Belarusian Defense Ministry has selected and trained members of staff who will make part of a civil-military cooperation group that might be sent to the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, the press service of the Defense Ministry reports. At the moment the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in the city of Naqoura has five Belarusian military men: four medical workers and one mission staff officer. The specialists of the medical service corps (a surgeon, an anesthesiologist, a surgical nurse, and a nurse anesthetist) carry out their duties at the UNIFIL Hospital providing medical assistance to the employees of the mission and local people. The Belarusian UNIFIL staff officer is responsible for the coordination of cooperation between the UN mission commanders and the Lebanese Armed Forces.
       “The Defense Ministry organizes training of the Belarusian military for regular staff rotation,” the ministry added.
