Belarus-Russia union to grow stronger alongside Eurasian Economic Union

The format of the Union State of Belarus and Russia will not disappear with the emergence of the Eurasian Economic Union. Contrariwise, the union of Belarus and Russia will grow consistently stronger. The statement was made by Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev at the session of the Union State Council of Ministers in Minsk.
Dmitry Medvedev noted that the dynamics of relations inside the Union State remains rather high on the whole. However, the Prime Minister of Russia stated that this year the bilateral trade has been reduced somewhat.

(record)

The reasons behind the reduction include the unfavorable situation in the global economy and in the national economies, all kinds of external factors that dampen economic development. The fact necessitates additional joint analysis. The Belarusian and Russian governments are already working on it.
It is possible to improve the mutual trade balance, including by exporting more food to the Russian market, by further reducing administrative barriers, by bolstering trade and economic links between regions, and by supporting joint projects. Manufacturing cooperation and major joint projects, which we are implementing in various spheres — the production sector, energy industry — and the fulfillment of scientific, technical, and innovative programs are of crucial importance”.
