Belarus’ public and private sectors need to team up to develop mediation

       The public and private sectors of Belarus should join efforts to promote mediation in the country, BelTA quotes international mediator, Bill Marsh, leading international dispute resolution consultant, mediator and mediation trainer, (the United Kingdom). Bill Marsh believes that Belarus is making progress in this field. It is essential to understand that the progress will not be very quick. But it is a very important task for any state, he added.
      Chairman of the Belarusian National Bar Association Viktor Chaichits, in turn, said that in 2011-2012 Belarus implemented a pilot project to use mediation in the resolution of economic disputes. The project was initiated by the Belarusian Union of Lawyers. In 2013 the mediation bill was passed in the country, in 2014 mediation lost the experimental status and began to be applied in practice. This year the Justice Ministry issued about 100 mediator licenses, more than a half of them to lawyers.
