Lukashenko: Belarus, Azerbaijan need to step up mutual trade

There are no closed themes in the relations between Belarus and Azerbaijan, President of our country Alexander Lukashenko said as he met in Minsk with Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov. According to Alexander Lukashenko, the two countries have been developing all-round cooperation. The head of state noted that “We have never intended to cooperate against anyone,” the Belarusian leader said.
Also, Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that Belarus and Azerbaijan should work harder to build up mutual trade:

“I believe we have big cooperation prospects indeed. Azerbaijan is one of the richest countries in the East, and the trade of $300 million and even $500 million is insufficient for us. That is why we just have to find ways to increase it.
Both the government and the Foreign Ministry of Belarus have been emphatically instructed to address this issue.”
For his part, the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan stressed that Azerbaijan views the bilateral relations in a similar light. “We also seek to bolster trade ties with Belarus. From the political point of view we have mutual understanding on almost every issue on the international agenda,” he said.
