Belarus in favor of linking climate commitments to sustainable development

Belarus believes it is necessary to reliably link climate commitments to the system of sustainable development commitments. Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich made the relevant statement at the UN climate Summit in New York, USA.
The event is supposed to draw attention of leaders from all over the world, the business community, financial institutions, the production sector, and the global community to the problem of climate changes and the development of a new climate agreement that will replace the Kyoto Protocol and will be ready for signing in Paris in late 2015.
Mikhail Myasnikovich underlined that Belarus honors its commitments as part of the Kyoto Protocol.
(Record)
“Belarus could have done more if the economic mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol had been more effective. Motivation mechanisms of the new climate agreement have to be universally available and fair. Every party to the agreement that has reduced emissions has to be rewarded.
Belarus calls upon developed nations to encourage direct investments in environmentally responsible countries. It is necessary to clearly link climate arrangements to the system of commitments in the area of sustainable development. Close attention should be paid to energy and universal access to clean technologies”.
