New York has hosted the US Open men’s doubles and mixed doubles draw ceremony, BelTA has learned.
Belarus’ Max Mirnyi and Mikhail Youzhny of Russia will take on the world’s top seeds brothers Bob and Mike Bryan in the opener. The 37-year-old Belarusian has two US Open victories on his record: with Lleyton Hewitt of Australia in 2000 and Mahesh Bhupathi in 2002. Max Mirnyi lost twice (in 2005 and 2006) with Jonas Bjorkman of Sweden in the finals at the Flushing Meadows courts. During his long professional career Max Mirnyi won 48 ATP doubles tournaments teaming up with different tennis players.
At the 2014 US Open Max Mirnyi will also play at the mixed doubles. Paired with China’s Hao-Ching Chan, Max Mirnyi will go against fifth-seeded Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic and Horia Tecau of Romania. In the previous years Max Mirnyi won the mixed doubles three times: with Serena Williams in 1999, Victoria Azarenka in 2007 and Andrea Hlavackova of the Czech Republic in 2013.
The $38.3 million US Open will finish on 8 September.
