Three more medals for Belarus at 2014 Youth Olympics


       Belarusian athletes added three (two gold, one silver) medals to their medal count (now seven awards) at the ongoing 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, BelTA reports. Kamilla Bobr claimed gold in C1. She confidently won her semifinal race. In the final the Belarusian was faster than Ukraine’s Lyudmila Luzan to finish first with the time of 2:21.640. The Belarusian won gold in the same discipline at the 2014 ECA Junior and Under 23 Canoe Sprint European Championships in Mantes en Yvelines, France. The champion title of the Youth Olympic Games also went to Stanislav Daineko in the men’s K1 event. Stanislav Daineko won with the result of 1:36.913. Belarusian tennis player Irina Shimanovich collected silver in the women’s singles losing to Shilin Xu of China 3-6, 1-6. Young Belarusian Olympians have so far clinched seven (four gold, three silver) medals. Kristina Staroselets collected gold in the 1000m Junior Women’s Single Sculls. Tennis player Irina Shimanovich won gold together with Ukraine’s Angelina Kalinina in the women’s doubles. Belarusian judoist Dmitry Minkov and runner Elvira German (100m hurdles) claimed silver medals.
      At the previous Youth Olympic Games in 2010 the Belarusian team won 6 (one gold, four silver and one bronze) medals.
