Belarusian freestyle wrestlers claimed one silver and three bronzes at the FILA Golden Grand Prix Finals in Baku dedicated to the memory of the former President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev, BelTA has learnt.
Eight athletes representing Belarus took part in the three-day tournament.
Nadezhda Shushko took silver at 53kg, defeating three rivals on her way to the final. In the deciding bout the Belarusian fell to Greece’s Maria Prevolaraki 3-7
Six representatives of Belarus got the right to fight for the third place. Three of them succeeded. Murad Gaidarov (74kg) beat Russia’s Kamal Malikov, Yekaterina Gonchar (55kg) routed Meruert Dynbayeva from Kazakhstan, Vasilisa Marzalyuk saw off Guzel Manyurova of Kazakhstan.
Anastasia Guchok (60kg), Yulia Yatkovskaya (55kg) and Alexei Shemarov (125kg) finished fifth.
2012 world champion Vanessa Kolodinskaya (48kg) wrapped up the tournament at the 11th place losing to Ukraine’s Natalia Pulkovskaya in last 16.
Partaking in the Heydar Aliyev memorial tournament in Baku, in its seventh year, were about 400 athletes from 40 countries. The competitions were an important stage in the preparations for the 2014 FILA World Championship which is due in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in late September.
