The Belarusian team scooped several medals at the German Grand Prix, a major international competition in Greco-Roman and freestyle, that took place in Dortmund. World champion Alexei Shemarov (125kg) won a freestyle gold medal after defeating Germany’s Nick Matuhin and Toni Bernhardt and schooling Slovakia’s Soslan Gagloev in the final. Azamat Nurikov added a bronze medal at 65kg. Another Belarusian freestyle wrestler, Alexander Gushtyn, landed 9th.
In Greco-Roman, Kirill Grishchenko was raced out by Nurmakhan Tinaliev from Kazakhstan in the 130kg final. Yaroslav Kardash (66kg), Pavel Lyakh (71kg), Valery Polensky (75kg), Javid Gamzatov (85kg), Alexander Grabovik (98kg) added bronze medals to the Greco-Roman haul for Belarus. Experienced Belarusian wrester Elbek Tozhiyev lost the match for the bronze medal at 59kg.
Armenia won the Greco-Roman team title with 75 points. Belarus followed with 67 points and Turkey and Germany with 56 points.
