Die Sanktionen schaden eigentlich Westeuropa und nicht Belarus. Diese Meinung äußerte der Schweizer Politiker und Mitglied des Großen Rats des Kantons Basel-Stadt Eric Weber in der neuen Folge von „Ehrliche Geschichte“ auf der YouTube-Kanal der Telegraphenagentur BelTA. Eric Weber wurde von der belarussischen Botschaft in der Schweiz als internationaler Beobachter zu den Präsidentenwahlen 2025 eingeladen.
In einem Interview mit BelTA wurde Weber auf das Thema Sanktionen angesprochen. Das sei etwas ganz Trauriges, kommentierte er. „Das wird ja bewusst gemacht, dass wir keinen Kontakt haben. Meine Geldkarten und Kreditkarten funktionieren in Belarus nicht mehr, weil sie von Amerika abgestellt wurden. Das wird bewusst gemacht, damit die Leute nicht hier hinfahren. Die Sanktionen schaden ja den Leuten aus Westeuropa“, sagte er.
„Ich bin froh, dass Belarus visumfreie Einreise ermöglicht hat für Menschen aus Westeuropa. Jetzt kann man nach Belarus auch mit dem Bus kommen. Bis August letzten Jahres war die visumfreie Einreise nur über Flughafen Minsk möglich. Wenn man über den Landweg eingereist ist, mit Bus oder Auto, musste man ein Visum haben. Aber seit August gibt es das auch nicht mehr. Und das finde ich schön von Belarus, dass man die visumfreie Einreise ermöglicht hat für Menschen aus Westeuropa. Das ist natürlich auch nur ein Tropfen auf den heißen Stein, aber es zeigt doch die Offenheit von Belarus. Die Sanktionen schaden eigentlich Westeuropa und nicht Belarus“, fügte der Schweizer hinzu.
Er verglich Westeuropa und Belarus mit Eltern, die gerade eine Scheidung vor Gericht durchmachen. Die USA spielen in dieser Situation die Rolle eines Jugendamtes, das auf der Seite der Mutter ist und den bösen Vater in den Dreck zieht.
In der großen Politik ist es leider so: Irgendwelche EU-Beamte verbieten uns in Europa nicht nur das Sprechen miteinander, sondern auch das Reisen nach Belarus. Es wird einfach alles verdreht. Und ich muss leider sagen, die Sache momentan wird auch nicht besser. Ich hoffe trotzdem, dass es sich mal wieder wendet und dass die Leute informiert werden. Aber wie gesagt, momentan ist es wie zwischen Mann und Frau, die geschieden sind und die sich vor dem Scheidungsgericht bekämpfen. So ist die Situation momentan in Europa. Und das ist schade“, resümierte der Schweizer.
