Zhejiang Shuren University delegation to visit Belarus in November

A delegation from Zhejiang Shuren University (China) is set to visit Saint Euphrosyne Polotsk State University on 21-25 November, BelTA learned from the Zhejiang Shuren University.

“The two universities will hold a Chinese-Belarusian youth forum on the theme “Interdisciplinary research and projects - drivers of education transformation”. The program will also include a visit to a Belarusian advanced science and technology company to explore new ways of cooperation and discuss new areas of development,” representatives of the Chinese delegation said.

“Since Chinese President Xi Jinping launched the Belt and Road initiative in 2013, it has received a positive response and strong support from more and more countries around the world,” representatives of Zhejiang Shuren University said. “Belarus was one of the first countries to support and participate in the Belt and Road initiative. Over the years, China and Belarus have held frequent exchanges and deepened mutual political trust. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed a joint declaration on further development of all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries in the new era, which outlines a new path for the development of cooperation between the two states in various fields, including trade, economy and investment.”

According to the Chinese representatives, the two parties have practical cooperation in various fields, including politics, economy and culture. They emphasized cooperation in education: “Experience exchange and cooperation between universities is also an important form of civil and cultural exchanges. A number of Chinese institutes and universities with advanced positions in education have established cooperation and friendship with Belarusian educational institutions. Among them is Zhejiang Shuren University, located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.”

The university was founded in 1984. The university is an undergraduate institution of higher education run by public efforts. The university was founded by the Zhejiang Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and is under the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education. In 2004, Xi Jinping, during his visit to Zhejiang Province, praised the development path of Shuren University and expressed his hope for the university's further high-quality performance. Over the past 40 years, the quality of the university's education has been steadily improving, and significant results have been achieved in various fields.

“Zhejiang Shuren University has a Belarus Research Center, which is an important platform for the active development of exchanges and cooperation between China and Belarus. Founded in 2015, the center has promoted comprehensive cooperation between our university and research institutes of Belarusian universities, and achieved fruitful results in scientific and technological cooperation and academic exchanges in many fields, such as higher education, green environment, information technology, and trade culture. The center has received five provincial and ministerial international cooperation projects for implementation, published more than 30 scientific papers of great international significance, obtained more than 10 patents for inventions related to international cooperation, made more than 20 mutual visits with Belarusian universities and research institutes, and held a number of important inter-university exchanges. Every year the center regularly holds an annual conference of Belarusian research centers in China, contributing to the study of Belarus,” representatives of Zhejiang Shuren University said.

The university has a good basis for scientific cooperation with Belarusian universities. “Cooperation with Saint Euphrosyne Polotsk State University has yielded good results in attracting high-class specialists and setting up a laboratory of intelligent image processing,” the Chinese university said. “In June 2024, Rector of Saint Euphrosyne Polotsk State University Yuri Romanovsky visited Zhejiang Shuren University. The two educational institutions signed a document of intent to jointly establish a Confucius Institute and a document on academic exchanges. This will help the two parties to further deepen their friendly relations and ensure even more effective interaction.”

I recently learned my surname is not Polish, but Belarusian. I heard you on shortwave in the past and am so happy to listen online in English. We hear nothing about Belarus here in the US so I am so glad to learn about your country. Keep on broadcasting in English. I also joined the Hoererklub on Facebook as I can understand German. If you have information or a station pennant, I will very much appreciate it.
