Top senator: Belarus and China are bound by unity of views

Belarus and China are bound not just by pragmatic partnership but by unity of views. Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova made the statement during a session of the high-level committee on cooperation between the legislative bodies of Belarus and China, BelTA has learned.

Natalya Kochanova noted that amid global geopolitical instability Belarus and China had managed to build a new model of interstate interaction. It is not just a pragmatic partnership but deep unity of worldviews based on respect for history and traditions, the desire for sustainable development, and support for a fair world order. “We welcome the high dynamics of bilateral Belarus-China contacts at various levels: through parliament, the Belarus President Administration, ministries and government agencies, regional authorities, and business circles. Our countries successfully interact on international platforms, providing support to each other,” the chairwoman of the Council of the Republic said.

The speaker pointed out that the two countries successfully cooperate in trade, economic, and investment fields. Belarus and China achieve high figures of bilateral trade every year. “We note the growth of export of Belarusian products to the Chinese market and intend to double it by 2030. Belarus progressively advances its participation in the Belt and Road initiative. In 2025 a cooperation roadmap until 2030 was signed with the China International Development Cooperation Agency. Over the entire period of cooperation through concessional lending and technical and economic aid 20 projects have been implemented, the landmark ones being the construction of an international-standard swimming pool and the National Football Stadium in Minsk. I am confident that many generations of Belarusians will judge our iron brotherhood by these implemented initiatives as well,” Natalya Kochanova emphasized.

As an example of industrial cooperation between the two countries, the speaker cited the joint venture BELGEE, which produces modern cars that are in demand both on the domestic and foreign markets. Belarus also counts on further investment cooperation with China. “In 2025 investments of Chinese investors reached almost $600 million. In the first quarter of this year they increased further, with the growth rate at 133.7%,” the chairwoman of the Council of the Republic noted.

Great attention is paid to the development of interregional cooperation as well. “At previous meetings we discussed matters of cooperation and the prospect of holding an interregional forum. And today this is already becoming a reality. On 1-2 July the first Belarus-China Forum of Regions will take place in Gansu Province. We hope that this event will give even greater dynamics to the development of interregional cooperation,” Natalya Kochanova stressed.

Belarus and China also consistently step up interaction in the humanitarian sphere, which covers education, healthcare, culture, sport, tourism, and cooperation of youth organizations.

Today the third session of the high-level committee on cooperation between the legislative bodies of Belarus and China was held via videoconferencing. The committee was established within the framework of implementing paragraph 3 of the joint declaration on establishing the highest level of relations in history: an all-weather and all-round strategic partnership dated 15 September 2022. The initiative to sign a cooperation agreement between the National Assembly of Belarus and the National People's Congress of China was put forward by the Council of the Republic in January 2023.

I recently learned my surname is not Polish, but Belarusian. I heard you on shortwave in the past and am so happy to listen online in English. We hear nothing about Belarus here in the US so I am so glad to learn about your country. Keep on broadcasting in English. I also joined the Hoererklub on Facebook as I can understand German. If you have information or a station pennant, I will very much appreciate it.
