Kazakhstan’s private sector to more heavily rely on commodity exchange in trade with Belarus

Belarus and Kazakhstan plan to scale up the use of commodity exchange instruments in mutual trade with the support of Kazakhstan’s business associations that will help attract exporters and importers to the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE), the BUCE press service told BelTA.
 
In particular, the Atameken Club business association and the Association of Exporters of Kazakhstan expressed readiness to help BUCE promote the exchange mechanism among representatives of the Kazakh business community. Negotiations on cooperation with these organizations took place via a video conference on 27 July.
 
According to Yaroslav Kovalchuk, Head of the Foreign Economic Activity Department at BUCE, Kazakh businesses actively participate in exchange trading and currently rank 7th in terms of the transaction volume among residents of 84 countries accredited at the exchange. According to BUCE data, this year Belarus regularly shipped Belarusian sugar, milk powder, butter, and lumber to Kazakhstan via the exchange while importing spare parts for industrial equipment and rolled pipes from Kazakhstan.
 
Yaroslav Kovalchuk said: “In January-July the exchange trade turnover of Kazakh companies exceeded $37 million. Consequently, the growth rate reached 146% compared to the same period of last year. The number of Kazakhstan’s residents accredited at the exchange also increased. Today 224 companies cooperate with us, and three of them have the status of exchange brokers.”
 
While discussing the prospects of interaction with the Atameken Club and the Association of Exporters of Kazakhstan, the BUCE representative pointed out the opportunities for using the exchange as a channel to sell Kazakh goods on the market of Belarus and third countries. In Yaroslav Kovalchuk’s opinion, businesses do not fully utilize the potential of this avenue at present.
 
Yaroslav Kovalchuk noted: “I can definitely say that Kazakhstan-made products are in demand at the exchange. The most liquid items include ferrous and non-ferrous metals, ferroalloys, coal, grain and oilseed crops, and textile raw materials. Moreover, not only Belarus but any other country represented at the exchange can serve as a target market. Participants have regularly concluded transit transactions involving residents of Kazakhstan on our platform since 2024.”
 
The public joint-stock company (OAO) Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange was established in 2004. The first trading session was conducted in June 2005. BUCE is one of the largest mercantile exchanges in Eastern Europe. Its key function is to assist Belarusian companies with exporting their products and assist foreign companies with entering the Belarusian market. The commodity exchange facilitates trade in metals, timber, agricultural products, and a broad choice of industrial and consumer goods.

On this day, which is dedicated to inner and outer well-being of human body, people across the world practice yoga in groups. The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga, a physical, mental and spiritual practice.
