Dnieper-Bug Waterway Company has embarked on a cross-border project to restore water transport route Dnieper-Wisla-Oder. The project has been supported and financed by the European Union as part of the cross-border cooperation program Poland-Belarus-Ukraine. The two-year project is aimed at elaborating and approving a priority variant for the restoration of an important international water transport route. The project is implemented in close cooperation with local authorities, water management companies and civil organizations of Belarus, Poland and Ukraine under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Belarus, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland and the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine.
According to the organizers of the project, its implementation will provide an opportunity to the border regions of Poland, Belarus and Ukraine to become a center of international multimodal transportation, allow for lessening the load on the road system, reduce CO2 emissions through an active use of water transport and fully use the unique potential of the Dnieper-Bug waterway for developing international river tourism.
