On 19 April Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Dmitry Krutoi paid a visit to Tambov Oblast where he met with Belarusian dealers and toured Tambov’s largest chemical enterprise. The cornerstone of the visit was the meeting with Tambov Oblast Governor Maxim Yegorov, BelTA has learned.
“Today we have had a breakthrough meeting with the governor. Belarus and Tambov Oblast have an extremely vibrant trade: our trade in recent years is twice as big as that of three or four years before. And this is absolutely not the limit,” the ambassador told reporters following the talks.
He said that on behalf of the leadership of Belarus he invited the Tambov Oblast governor to visit Minsk and other cities in August as part of a big delegation. “We have decided that the visit itinerary will definitely include Grodno and, possibly, Brest,” the diplomat specified. “We will try to come up with new cooperation ideas by this time, work out a number of proposals. Our task is (the governor is on the same page with me about it) to advance from trade to joint projects. Literally today, we have received proposals to set up joint ventures to assemble agricultural machinery, or utility vehicles, or road equipment - any machines on the MAZ chassis, using Amkodor equipment with the participation of MTZ, and these will certainly be landmark projects in our future cooperation,” the diplomat added.
According to the ambassador, until now the bilateral cooperation was most vibrant in two segments of the economy – chemical industry and agriculture. “As far as agriculture is concerned, we agreed to consider the construction of vegetable storages,” he said. “We might as well build new milk processing enterprises that will supply their products to Tambov Oblast. For this, we might use leasing and financial instruments as part of export promotion programs run by Belarusian banks. As far as cooperation in science is concerned, the governor asked to pay more attention to seed breeding,” Dmitry Krutoi noted.
The last supplies of Belarus’ passenger vehicles to Tambov took place in the pre-Covid period. “It was made clear that the region needs mostly gas-engine equipment. Therefore, we are going to take an active part in the upcoming tender,” Dmitry Krutoi informed.
As for utility vehicles, Tambov needs certain types of machinery to suit it needs. “Given the size of the city, street cleaning schemes, they need more maneuverable equipment in a special design, so Amkodor and MAZ are to work on it in the coming months. In addition to that, the upgrade of the local airport provides for a certain renewal of airfield equipment; upon the request of the governor we will quickly develop and present our offer,” the ambassador said.
The construction sector was also mentioned during the negotiations. “The pace with which the region delivers education and healthcare facilities is absolutely amazing and the governor gave an instruction that two or three construction projects be chosen for Belarusians before his visit to Minsk. And we would think what financing instruments and construction projects we could offer,” Dmitry Krutoi added.

I recently learned my surname is not Polish, but Belarusian. I heard you on shortwave in the past and am so happy to listen online in English. We hear nothing about Belarus here in the US so I am so glad to learn about your country. Keep on broadcasting in English. I also joined the Hoererklub on Facebook as I can understand German. If you have information or a station pennant, I will very much appreciate it.
