Lukashenko outlines vision for ties with Algeria

Belarus and Algeria have the potential to agree on the implementation of numerous projects, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during a meeting with Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf in Minsk on 6 August, BelTA has learned.

The head of state noted that he had been deeply impressed by his meeting with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which took place late in 2025. At that time, the two leaders identified a number of projects that Minsk and Algiers could implement jointly. In this regard, the Belarusian president shared the key conclusion drawn from those talks.

“Belarus and Algeria can agree on the implementation of numerous projects. The foundation of this conviction is that we can deliver virtually everything Algeria needs today, and perhaps tomorrow,” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized. “I would like to see these projects gain greater momentum through our agreements with Algeria.”

“If we make progress in this regard and reach agreements on concrete projects, it will, first, serve as a foundation for our future relations. Second, it will unlock new opportunities for cooperation between Belarus and Algeria right now. This is the general philosophy of our relations as I see it,” the Belarusian leader said.

Cooperation between Belarus and Algeria has been expanding dynamically across various sectors recently. This was heavily driven by the Belarusian leader’s visit to Algeria in December 2025, which coincided with the Belarus-Algeria Business Forum held there. The results of these efforts were felt almost immediately. While bilateral trade stood at around $40 million by the end of 2025, it reached nearly $76 million in H1 2026 alone. Virtually the entire trade volume (with a minor exception of just a few thousand dollars) consists of Belarusian exports, primarily milk, condensed and powdered cream, and soybean oil.
