Nearly 4.4m m2 of homes commissioned in Belarus in 2024

Over 4.39 million square meters of housing, or 99.8% of the plan, was commissioned in Belarus in 2024, up by 4.7% over 2023, BelTA learned from the Construction and Housing Policy Directorate of the Architecture and Construction Ministry.

The tasks for commissioning residential homes are annually set for regional executive committees and the Minsk City Executive Committee by a resolution of the Council of Ministers. Thus, last year the plan was executed by almost 100%.

“Over the four years of this five-year period, 17.2 million square meters of housing was commissioned, 2% above the target,” the Architecture and Construction Ministry informed.

Last year, 427,400 square meters of rental housing was delivered, and more than 440,000 square meters are to be built in 2025. The government is trying to make such housing more popular; it should become available not only to those on the waiting list, but also to everyone who wants it. Since 2019, there has been a trend towards increasing the amount of rental housing construction.

Particular attention is still paid to housing for families with many kids. According to the ministry, 6,312 apartments for large families were built in 2024, which is 21.3% above the annual target. “In addition to the construction of new housing, large families can use other instruments to improve their housing conditions, like subsidies for purchasing housing on the secondary market or  rental and social housing,” the Architecture and Construction Ministry added.

It was also noted that electricity for heating, hot water supply and cooking will be used whenever possible in all apartment blocks under design.

Another trend of 2024 was an increase in commissioning of single-family homes.  It is attributed to the simplified construction procedure. Thus, last year detached homes accounted for 51.1% of the total area of housing commissioned in the country. That said, more than 45% of the total area of residential premises commissioned in 2024 were built in rural areas and small towns.

The Architecture and Construction Ministry assured that it will retain its focus on building housing for people on the waiting list for better housing in 2025.
