Serbia named one of Belarus’ key partners in Balkans

Serbia is one of the key partners of Belarus in the Balkan Peninsula, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Sergei Khomenko said as he met with Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Jovan Janjic, BelTA has learned.

“It is quite symbolic that you have visited the Republic of Belarus this year. On 3 July we celebrated the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazis. It is symbolic that it is this year that Serbia celebrates the 80th anniversary of its liberation from the Nazi invaders. Our historical truth says that together the peoples of Belarus and Serbia are capable of accomplishing great deeds and fighting against the world evil,” Sergei Khomenko said.

“Speaking about the relationship between Belarus and Serbia, our leaders – Aleksandr Lukashenko and Aleksandar Vučić - set an example for us. In November 2024 we will celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Serbia,” the deputy speaker said. “Belarus considers Serbia as one of the key partners in the Balkan Peninsula, if not to say more - in the whole Western Europe, as a true friend, ready to provide help in any situation,” he emphasized.

According to Sergei Khomenko, the parliamentary elections were held in Serbia in December 2023, and the elections to the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus in April 2024. “In fact, two new parliaments are working in our states. We are ready to communicate, to develop our relations and we think that this will contribute to the development of our societies and states,” he added.
