Lukashenko: Belarusian love for peace is not pacifism

Work is in progress to drag Belarus into a war. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement in his speech at a session of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress on 24 April, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “One thing is understandable: they want to drag us into a war very much. Like no one else I can see it as the commander-in-chief. Our military and security agencies see it. For now we face provocations. We see that the digging of trenches and the modernization of military infrastructure and weapons. I’ve already said that we build a peaceful life on the other side of the border. We don’t build walls and we don’t dig trenches. But our love for peace is not pacifism. I want you not to mix them.”

In his words, as the threats escalate, Belarus will take symmetrical measures and will build up its military might. “I’d like to tell them: don’t push us towards asymmetric measures,” the president warned. “We should be strong so that nobody would dare bring us to our knees as it often happened in the course of our history. We don’t want to be kicked from one side of the football field to the other anymore. We don’t ask anyone for land. We want to live in our land. Our Belarusian nation has suffered enough to earn this right and we will not allow anyone to surrender it.”
