IMF mission to survey Belarus economy on 17-28 October

Led by David Hofman, a mission of the International Monetary Fund visits Minsk for fifth post-program monitoring discussions of the Belarus economy following the IMF’s standby program, which was completed in late March 2010. The IMF personnel will prepare a report that will be later reviewed by the IMF Executive Board. As previous missions have done, this one will offer the authorities an opportunity to discuss the current macroeconomic policy and prospects of the Belarus economy development. From January 2009 through April 2010 Belarus accomplished a standby program backed by a $3.5 billion IMF loan.
It allowed the country to secure positive dynamics of several economy and monetary management indicators.
The repayment of the loan will peak in 2013. Following the completion of the standby program in April 2010 the IMF launched additional consultations with Belarus to assess economic policy measures and work out proposals to improve the national economy effectiveness. Between 2011 and March 2013 Belarus welcomed four IMF missions for the sake of post-program monitoring discussions.
