Transit traffic through Belarus to SCO countries up by 20% in 2023

The transit traffic through Belarus to the SCO member states increased by 20% in 2023, BelTA learned from the State Customs Committee.

Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee Eduard Danilovich took part in the international roundtable discussion on logistics themed “Strengthening cooperation between SCO countries, working together to build a new Asia-Europe multimodal corridor.” The event took place in the city of Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province of China, and was organized by the Lianyungang municipal government and the SCO Secretariat. The main talking points of the roundtable discussion were efforts to expand cooperation in manufacturing and logistics with the SCO countries and the construction of cross-border logistics corridors.

Eduard Danilovich noted that, despite the growing challenges and threats, the movement of goods across customs borders continues, international trade is not slowing down. In 2023 the transit traffic to the SCO countries through the territory of Belarus expanded by 20% year-on-year, and the transit traffic from the SCO countries rose by 15%.

“The customs authorities of Belarus are consistently working to improve border crossing conditions and to simplify customs administration. Checkpoints are renovated, transport and logistics infrastructure is refurbished, waiting areas are built, electronic declaration of goods and their automatic release are improved. One of the ways to improve customs control is efficient use of navigational seals during transportation,” the deputy chairman of the State Customs Committee said.

On behalf of Belarus, Eduard Danilovich expressed interest in using navigation devices for transportation between Belarus and China. He also expressed confidence in further constructive and fruitful cooperation with Chinese colleagues.
