Belarus is open to cooperation with Sudan

Belarus is open to cooperation with Sudan in all areas, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said as she met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sudan to Belarus Mohammed Omer Musa Ali in Minsk on 30 December, BelTA has learned.

“We have an intergovernmental commission led by Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Andrei Khudyk. It is very important for us that the work of this commission has stepped up. Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko attaches great importance to the development of relations between our countries. Belarus is a link between Europe and Asia. Sudan, as our president said, is the gateway to Africa. We have everything we need to develop cooperation. Most importantly, we have the foundation that has been laid earlier. We know how to cooperate, how to be friends. We would like to intensify cooperation across all the areas,” Natalya Kochanova said.

The speaker added that Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko paid an official visit to Sudan in 2017. In addition, in a fairly short period of time, many Belarusian delegations have visited Sudan as well. “I want to assure you that we are open to cooperation. We are ready for dialogue,” stressed the chairwoman of the Council of the Republic. “We are ready to work together at international forums. We are grateful for your support of Belarus at the United Nations. It is very important to us. You will see for yourselves how Belarus lives, how it develops. We are a peace-loving country. It has always been our policy to resolve any issues peacefully. At the same time, you see what is happening in relation to our country - absolutely unjustified sanctions are imposed on us. We need to be together, stay united in defending a fair and just policy in our country.”

“MPs, members of the Council of the Republic will do everything to ensure that our relations, prospective cooperation will be effective and fruitful and, of course, mutually beneficial for our countries. We are sincerely glad to welcome you here and hope that we will be able to discuss all the issues in our relationship. We are always open to our counterparts from Sudan,” Natalya Kochanova added.
