Hanoi hosts event to mark 30 years of Belarus-Vietnam diplomatic ties

A “Meeting of Friends” was held in Hanoi as part of events to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Vietnam, BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Hanoi.

The guests were greeted by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Vietnam Vladimir Borovikov. The diplomat opened an archival photo exhibition dedicated to the first visit of President Ho Chi Minh to Minsk that took place 65 years ago.

The ambassador emphasized that this event is one of the symbolic foundations of strong and long-term friendship between the two nations. A documentary about those events was screened for the attendees.

According to Chairman of the Vietnam-Belarus Friendship Association Nguyen Tuan Phong, subsequent high-level visits and people’s diplomacy made bilateral relations even closer. The traditions of sincere friendship that were laid long before the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Belarus are the key to the further expansion of interpersonal and interstate contacts, interaction in many areas, including trade, education, science and technology.

During the event, Belarusian folk songs and Vietnamese patriotic songs were performed live. A Belarusian nook was presented featuring materials about the nature, history and culture of Belarus. Taking part in the event were heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Vietnam, diplomats, representatives of government agencies, cultural figures, activists of the Vietnam-Belarus society, as well as graduates of Belarusian universities from among Vietnamese citizens. They were offered to taste traditional Belarusian dishes. They could also mingle and wish each other Happy New Year.

The meeting was organized with the support of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and covered by the Vietnamese media.
