Deputy PM reveals where Belarus redirects food supplies under sanctions

Speaking at a joint meeting of the two chambers of the Belarusian parliament Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Leonid Zayats revealed where Belarus is redirecting food exports under the sanctions, BelTA has learned.

“In the face of the sanctions imposed on our country, domestic enterprises are working to expand supplies to traditional markets (CIS countries) and to explore new sales markets; they are working on new logistics routes to non-CIS states. Today, Belarusian food products and agricultural raw materials are shipped to about 100 countries of the world. The Russian Federation is the main sales market for domestic food products. In January-October the Russia market accounted for 71% of Belarus’ total food export; the export to this country grew by 24% compared to the same period in 2021. Exports to other CIS countries are also on the rise,” said Leonid Zayats.

Asian countries are also among the main buyers of Belarusian foodstuffs. “The export to this region increased by 55%. The share of Asian countries in Belarus’ total exports of food products increased by 1.7 percentage points up to 9%. The export to China was estimated at $452 million, an increase of 60% compared to the same period in 2021,” the deputy prime minister said.

“The key tasks for the domestic agricultural industry is to increase the export of food products and agricultural raw materials, penetrate new market and expand our presence in traditional markets,” Leonid Zayats concluded.
