Transit of Belarusian cargoes via Russian sea ports up by 2.2 times in January-September

Transit of Belarusian cargoes through Russian sea ports increased by 2.2 times in January-September 2022, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Sivak said at a joint sitting of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic, BelTA has learned.

"Currently, we use 14 ports of the Russian Federation for Belarusian export cargoes. We deliver Belarusian export cargoes using the ports of the North-Western region of Russia, the ports of the Black Sea and Azov Sea, along land routes towards China,” Anatoly Sivak said.

According to him, in January-September the transit of Belarusian export cargoes by rail to the sea ports of the Russian Federation increased by 2.2 times year-on-year. "Of this, more than 34% has been redirected from traditional routes," the deputy prime minister said.

Anatoly Sivak added that in September of this year Belarus and Russia signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the development of transportation of certain types of cargoes through transport corridors passing through Belarus and Russia.

"The agreement envisages alternative ways for supplying Belarusian export cargoes by land and transshipment of goods via the seaports of the Russian Federation. In addition, it guarantees the volume of transportation by container trains via Russia to China for the period up to 2024," the deputy prime minister emphasized.
