Belarus will be fully protected from cybercrime

Belarus will be protected from cybercrime to the maximum extent, deputy chief of the central office of the Investigative Committee of Belarus Ivan Sudnikovich said in an interview to STV channel, BelTA has learned.

“The government and law enforcement agencies have developed a system of measures to combat cybercrime. A set of measures, taken by all law enforcement agencies (including relationships with banks, the development of special software to block the resources and transactions, international cooperation, etc.) will make Belarus the country most protected from cybercrime,” said Ivan Sudnikovich.

He added that law enforcers understand “who we are fighting against and how to fight them”.

“Now the main goal of the criminal is to infect the computer, the device of the victim, to take possession of his or her resources or somehow convince him of her to give money or give details. Methods to do this are many and they will keep changing,” he said.

According to Ivan Sudnikovich, cybercrime trends have grown ten times over the past five years. This is an annual average of 25,000 cybercrimes today. “If there are 100,000 crimes in general, then every fourth is a cybercrime. Every second crime is committed in the ICT sector. This is a global problem,” he said.
