Minsk deputy mayor suggests considering proactive import substitution

It is now important for Belarus to focus on proactive import substitution, Minsk Deputy Mayor Nadezhda Lazarevich, who previously headed Bobruiskagromash Management Company, said on the air of the STV TV channel, BelTA informs.

“Now it is necessary to discuss not just import substitution, but proactive import substitution. Our enterprises that closely cooperate with such brands as Minsk Tractor Works, MAZ, BelAZ, and so on, need to focus on narrow-profile hydraulics, most of which was imported. Now it is high time to do it; we have the necessary competencies. If Rostselmash, the St. Petersburg tractor plant, and other major equipment manufacturers in Russia decide to buy our hydraulic cylinders, then Belarus will be more interested in manufacturing them,” she said.

Speaking about Bobruiskagromash, Nadezhda Lazarevich noted that the company’s import substitution program was developed in advance. In 2020-2022, the company has been operating at full capacity, selling products, including to foreign customers. “Our products keep rolling off the production line ,” she said.

Director General of Brestmyasomolprom Concern Mikhail Serkov noted that the concern’s products are of very high quality and the export to the CIS and non-CIS countries grew considerably in 2021.
