Chairman of the Standing Commission on Foreign Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Sergei Rachkov met with Chairman of the Defence, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi within the framework of the 144th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of the Belarusian parliament.
The parties discussed Belarus-UAE cooperation and topical issues of the IPU Assembly.
The senator welcomed progress in bilateral cooperation in trade, economy and investment, and emphasized the importance of the visa waiver for boosting tourism. In addition, he also welcomed interaction at multilateral platforms.
The parties pointed to the important work of parliamentary friendship groups in facilitating parliamentary contacts. A recent videoconference meeting was hailed as an example of effective communication.
An agreement was reached to continue inter-parliamentary cooperation, including within the framework of the IPU, and to intensify parliamentary exchanges.
