Lukashenko comments on ban on Belarus 24 TV channel in the EU: They do not need truth

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko commented on the ban on Belarus 24 TV channel in the EU as he talked to reporters after casting his ballot at the constitutional referendum on 27 February, BelTA has learned.

The president noted that Belarus is well aware of who makes such decisions and how. “What kind of freedom of speech are we talking about? They communicate [to the public] anything they need today,” the Belarusian leader said. He mentioned Euronews as a case in point. “Once I watched this channel. I still watch it every now and then, but I already know what they will say on this or that occasion. There has never been any truth there,” the president noted.

“They do not need an alternative point of view. They do not need the truth or even a different point of view. Therefore, I don't worry about it at all,” the president added.

“Madmen. Well, what shall I say to them? This is the kind of people they are. But the main thing is that not only you, but also our people have begun to understand what is what,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.

As previously reported, the Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission banned the rebroadcasting of several Russian-language TV channels in the country. Among them was the Belarus 24 channel. The Information Ministry of Belarus called this decision of Lithuania ‘another fact of strangulation of free media'.

Four Russian TV channels and the Belarus 2 TV channel were also banned from Estonian airwaves.
