Premiers of Belarus, Azerbaijan discuss trade, joint projects, travel restrictions

Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko has had a telephone conversation with Azerbaijan’s Prime Minister Ali Asadov, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian government.

The heads of government reviewed bilateral trade and economic cooperation in 2021 and outlined plans for 2022. It was noted that despite the coronavirus pandemic and the global economic downturn Belarus and Azerbaijan managed to significantly ramp up bilateral trade. In January-November 2021 the two countries posted a twofold increase in trade year-on-year (about $800 million), while Belarusian export grew 2.5 times and amounted to $448 million.

The prime ministers discussed the implementation of major joint projects in the manufacturing industry.

In addition, the heads of government considered a possibility to ease COVID-19-related restrictions on travel between the two countries.

The heads of government also agreed to intensify cooperation in order to fulfill the agreements reached during the meeting of the presidents of Belarus and Azerbaijan in April 2021.

Roman Golovchenko and Ali Asadov discussed bilateral events scheduled for 2022, including the upcoming meeting of the Belarus-Azerbaijan intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, as well as a schedule of contacts between the heads of government.
