Eurasian Economic Union launches pilot project on goods traceability mechanism

The member states of the Eurasian Economic Union are implementing a pilot project to launch a mechanism to trace goods imported into the EAEU, official representative of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Iya Malkina told a briefing for the press in Moscow on 24 January, BelTA has learned.

"The EEC Council adopted two decisions: to launch a traceability mechanism for goods imported into the customs territory of the EAEU, and on the procedure for logging the information in the national traceability systems about goods imported into the EAEU customs territory and subject to traceability," Iya Malkina said.

She explained that the first decision determines the procedure and timeline of the project to launch a traceability mechanism. Traceability mechanisms will be tested from 1 July 2022 to 31 March 2023 in relation to household refrigerators and freezers imported into the EAEU. The second decision approves the procedure to log the information in national traceability systems about the goods subject to traceability.

The agreement on the traceability mechanism entered into force in February 2021. "It aims to create a system to trace foreign goods in the Eurasian Economic Union. The overall task is to confirm the legality of their turnover when moved from the territory of one member state to the territory of another EAEU country, and to create conditions to exclude various schemes for evading customs and tax payments, ensuring control by the state over operations related to the turnover of such goods," Iya Malkina noted.
