Belarus produces trial batch of Sputnik V, Sputnik Light vaccines

Belarus has produced a pilot series of Sputnik V and Sputnik Light full-cycle vaccines, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry.

“Belmedpreparaty company has completed an important stage of a joint Belarusian-Russian project - full-cycle production of Sputnik V vaccine. On 22 December the Belarusian enterprise produced the first validation series of Sputnik V and Sputnik Light,” said the press service.

This batch is scheduled to be sent to the Gamaleya National Center in Russia for quality control on 23 December. “These samples will be used to study the stability of the vaccine during storage,” the press service said.

According to Director General of Belmedpreparaty Sergei Belyayev, Belarus has produced the entire cycle of the product, starting from the production of the active ingredient and up to the output of the final form.

“If everything goes according to the plan, by summer, June or July, we will be ready to make a product available to our people,” he said.

The director general said that one of the stages of the Belarusian-Russian project has been implemented. There is a lot of work ahead, “a lot of stages to be passed jointly with Russian colleagues”, he said.

Belarus has been working on the project for almost a year, Sergei Belyayev added.
