Belarus delivers 10t of aid to refugee camp on border

More than 10 tonnes of humanitarian aid, including food, was delivered to the refugee camp at Belarus' border with Poland on 12 November, BelTA has learned.

A large group of refugees heading to the Belarusian-Polish border was spotted near the Bruzgi checkpoint on 8 November. Foreigners, mostly Iraqi Kurds, did not manage to get into Poland. They set up a camp on the borderline. Conditions in the camp are far from being adequate: people are suffering from cold, they lack water and food.

Belarus is doing its best to help them. Another batch of humanitarian aid was delivered to the camp on 12 November. Ten trucks delivered more than 10 tonnes of food and essentials: bread, canned meat, confectionery, milk, hygiene products, including for children and women, and warm clothes.

The humanitarian aid was put together by the Belarusian Red Cross, enterprises, public and political associations.

Drinking water is delivered to the camp on a regular basis. Dry firewood is also provided. Migrants are gradually settling in, making makeshift huts.

Healthcare workers are on duty near the camp.

The refugees complain that many have caught cold, especially children because of freezing weather. There are about 500 children in the camp, according to various estimates. New groups of refugees keep coming to the camp. All of them want to get to the European countries.
