Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei met with President Tomislav Nikolic of Serbia in Belgrade, the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus reported. The sides discussed the implementation status of the agreements reached during the visit of the Serbian head of state to Belarus in March 2013. Tomislav Nikolic pointed out a friendly character of the Belarusian-Serbian relations and confirmed the readiness to develop them for the benefit of the two peoples. The Serbian President guaranteed his political support for the joint projects in that will be implemented in Serbia and Belarus. Vladimir Makei also met with Serbia’s Prime Minister – Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic to discuss bilateral trade and take stock of joint economic projects implemented in Serbia. The Belarusian Minister suggested refocusing from simple trade operations to cooperative ties. The grounds for such cooperation have already been laid down following the creation of assembly facilities of Belarusian tractors and buses in Serbia. This proposal was supported by the head of the Serbian Government.
On the whole the relations between the two countries are currently on the rise, believes the ambassador of Serbia to Belarus Stojan Yevtic.
Our bilateral relations are characterized by the traditional stability and friendliness. They are based on the spiritual, cultural and lingual similarity of our peoples and countries. This forms a solid basis for further development and expansion of our cooperation in all areas in the interests of both our states. Indeed, the potential of our interaction if the field of economy, science and culture is yet untapped, he said.
