Day of Remembrance to gather about 1,000 guests in Brest

Up to 1,000 guests are expected to partake in the nationwide Day of Remembrance of the victims of the Great Patriotic War in Brest on 22 June.

 

 

Partaking in the events commemorating the beginning of the Great Patriotic War in the border city of Brest will be official delegations from Volgograd, Ryazan and Tyumen led by the mayors of these Russian cities. The Train of Memory with youth and war veterans onboard will come from St. Petersburg.

 

 

The events marking the 72nd anniversary of the beginning of the war will kick off on 21 June. Thus, the post cemetery in Brest will play host to a ceremony of unveiling a commemorative token to the natives of Ryazan Oblast who defended the fortress and were killed in the battles to liberate Brest Oblast during the Great Patriotic War. The names of 16 war soldiers are inscribed on the commemorative token made in Ryazan.

 

 

On the same day the Brest Fortress Hero will host a ceremony of reinterring the remains of the WWII war soldiers founded during the constructions works.

 

 

 

In the evening of 21 June the guests and city dwellers will be treated to a parade of re-enactors. Brest is expected to welcome nearly 500 members of the military and historical re-enactment clubs from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Estonia, Poland, Bulgaria, England and Japan.
