Belarus has sent its 9-strong team to Guadalajara, Mexico which is hosting the first of three rounds for the 2014/15 UCI Track Cycling World Cup season on 7-9 November.
The Belarusian team will include leader of the Minsk cycling club Tatiana Sharakova, sprinters Vladislav Novik, Yevgeny Veremchuk and Artyom Zaitsev, as well as a five-member endurance squad of Oleg Agiyevich, Sergei Popok, Roman Romanov, Roman Tishkov, and Gordei Tishchenko. Some of the Belarusian members of the current lineup have already performed at the track in Guadalajara. Oleg Agiyevich, Roman Tishkov, and Gordei Tishchenko competed in Mexico as part of the Belarusian national team in January 2014 (the third round of the 2013/14 World Cup). Tatiana Sharakova and Sergei Popok also took part in the previous World Cup rounds. For other members of the team the forthcoming competitions will be the debut ones. The Belarusian national team is currently holding a training camp in Mexico.
The previous big event for the Belarusian track cyclists was the 2014 UEC Elite Track European Championships in Guadeloupe, France in October. The best results for Belarus were Tatiana Sharakova’s fifth place in omnium and Roman Romanov’s fifth place in the 40km Points Race.
