Ban Ki-moon praises Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking

        Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon has praised the efficient work of the Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking that was set up at the United Nations in 2010 upon the initiative of Belarus. The UN Secretary-General made this statement in his video message on the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, BelTA reports. The UN Secretary General also urged to assume concrete anti-trafficking commitments with a view to restoring justice and supporting the victims.
      Belarus was the first in the UN to suggest establishing the Global Partnership against Slavery and Trafficking in Human Beings in the 21st Century. This suggestion was put forward by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko at the 60th session of the UN General Assembly in 2005. The United Nations Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking was adopted in 2010. The World Day against Trafficking in Persons was established by General Assembly in December 2013.
