Train of Memory and Glory arrived in Minsk from St. Petersburg

Participants of the campaign Train of Memory and Glory who arrived in Minsk from St. Petersburg take part in the events to mark the Independence Day of Belarus, leader of the delegation, Vice Governor of St Petersburg Olga Kazanskaya told reporters.

The train brought over 120 people to the Belarusian capital. These are veterans, representatives of youth organizations, historical reconstruction clubs, cultural figures. Guests from St Petersburg laid flowers at the Victory Monument. According to Olga Kazanskaya, the main representatives of the delegation are the veterans who took part in Belarus’ liberation campaign. They fought at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Belarusian Fronts, in partisan brigades. Seven people were awarded medals to mark the 70th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from Nazi occupation. Minsk also welcomed people from besieged Leningrad and other veterans.

The Vice Governor of St Petersburg stressed that the campaign makes it possible for the veterans to visit their native towns. “We always remember that during the war Belarus lost one fourth of its population. We have not forgotten that Belarus suffered the most severe blow and nevertheless managed to hold out during the war,” Olga Kazanskaya said.
