The sanctions rhetoric in respect to Belarus still prevails in the United States policy, spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry Dmitry Mironchik said as he commented on the decision of the U.S. Administration to prolong sanctions against Belarus for a year.

“U.S. President Barack Obama’s decision to prolong the executive order signed by former U.S. President George W. Bush in 2006 shows that the U.S. policy is still overridden by the sanctions rhetoric, counterproductive attempts to use the methods of force and unwillingness to build up international relations.
The Foreign Ministry of Belarus advises the White House to pay attention to the absurdity of the document that considers Belarus “an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States”, especially amid the current examples of cooperation between the two countries on the most important issues of global and regional security.
Such decisions hinder the development of Belarusian-U.S. relations”.
