The emblem and flag of Belarus symbolize vitality, diligence and hopes for the happy future, Chairman of the Vitebsk City Council of Deputies Mikhail Portnoy said at the ceremony to mark the Day of the State Emblem and the State Flag of Belarus.
“The day of the state emblem and flag unites all generations of Belarusians and makes us proud and responsible citizens of the native Belarus.
The emblem, flag and anthem are the main symbols of independence which reveal the national spirit and dignity of the Belarusian nation. We know our history very well. Our thoughts are focused not on the past, but on the future. The emblem, flag and anthem are the symbols of vitality, diligence and hopes for the happy future,” Mikhail Portnoy said.
On behalf of the Vitebsk Oblast Council of Deputies and the City Council of Deputies, executive committees he congratulated all people on the holiday.
The national referendum to choose the State Flag, the State Emblem and the State Anthem took place on 14 May 1995.
