Belarus and Czechia should more actively promote regional cooperation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Czechia to Belarus Milan Ekert said as he met with Brest region Governor Konstantin Sumar, BelTA reports. According to the Governor, Brest Oblast has already made some headway into economic cooperation with Czechia. There are a number of enterprises owned by Czech investors in the oblast. They have earned a good reputation in power engineering and logistics. However, the presence of Czech capital in Brest Oblast can be stepped up. The Ambassador of Czechia noted that he deems the advancement of economic cooperation between the two countries to a new level his direct mission. In his words, in 2013 Czechia was Belarus’ ninth largest importer, with 52% of the import being of investment nature. At present Czech companies are implementing $500 million worth of projects in Belarus and take an active part in the modernization of the Belarusian production sector. “In the next few months we have plans for a number of events of economic nature. In May the sixth session of the Belarusian-Czech commission will take place with support of 26 companies,” said the Ambassador.
