Belarusian national women’s archery team takes silver

The Belarusian national women’s archery team have entered the final of the 2013 World Archery Championships in Turkey’s Antalya but lost to South Korea, world No.1, in the final. Team Belarus included Anna Marusova, Yekaterina Timofeyeva and Yelena Tolkach. They lost to the South Korean opponents 206:212 in the final. This was the only defeat which Belarus, world No.17, suffered during the world championships. In the qualification the team set a national record of 3,917 points and took the 14th place. The Belarusian national team succeeded in three knockout meetings in one day (3 October). In the last 16 round they defeated Germany (9) 175:166 and then did not leave a chance to the UK (16) 180:172 in the quarterfinal. Denmark (11) failed to win against Belarus either, 166:170. The success of the Belarusian team is almost equal to that of the men’s team at the 2006 European Outdoor Target Archery Championships in Athens. Back then, Anton Prilepov, Nikolai Marusov and Sergei Vitorsky won gold after snatching a narrow 193:191 victory against then-Olympic champions Spain. Nikolai Marusov was the only archer from that trio who took part in the 2013 World Archery Championships in Turkey.
