Belarus’ Max Mirnyi and Romania’s Horia Tecau have won the men’s doubles event at the China Open. In the final they chalked up a comfortable 6:4, 6:2 victory over the Italian pair Fabio Fognini/Andreas Seppi. In the first round Mirnyi and Tecau overpowered the international duo Julien Benneteau (France)/Nenad Zimonjic (Serbia), seeded fourth, 6:3, 6:4. In the quarterfinal they ousted Colin Fleming and Jonathan Marray of the UK 6:4, 7:6 (7:3). The Belarusian-Romanian duo was set to face Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka in the semifinal but the Swiss player was not able to take part in the match through an injury. Two other Belarus’ representatives had earlier left the China Open. World No. 2 Victoria Azarenka lost to Germany’s Andrea Petkovic (WTA No.43) on 30 September 4:6, 6:2, 4:6. Olga Govortsova, paired with Poland’s Alicja Rosolska, lost to U.S. duo Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears (sixth seeds) 1:6, 1:6 in the women’s doubles first-round match.
