The Belarusian delegation has urged to put an end to unilateral coercive measures at the 24th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.
According to the Belarusian delegation, these measures violate the international law and impede the establishment of a fair international order. The Belarusian delegation was led by Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva Mikhail Khvostov. The Belarusian delegation urged the UN to step up efforts to combat unlawful sanctions and to make an appreciable contribution to the human rights cause by adopting a principled stance on unilateral coercive measures. The Belarusian delegation upheld the findings of the expert seminar held by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in April 2013. The experts suggested establishing a special procedure at the UN to assess the impact of unilateral coercive measures on the implementation of human rights.
