Belarusian Victoria Azarenka has reached the quarterfinal of the Qatar Total Open 2015. Azarenka of Belarus defeated world number 27 Elina Svitolina of Ukraine 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinal in 2 hours and 16 minutes. In the opener the Belarusian saw off German Angelique Kerber (11) 6-0, 6-3. In the quarterfinal Belarusian number one will next play Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki (5) who beat Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru (94) 6-1, 3-0 (retired).
Caroline Wozniacki and Victoria Azarenka have met eight times before. The Belarusian has the personal record with the Dane at 4-4.
In the women’s doubles opener Azarenka paired with Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium beat Fatma Al Nabhani of Oman and Chinese Saisai Zheng 6-3, 6-4. In the quarterfinal and Belarusian-Belgian duo will meet Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears of the United States.
Victoria Azarenka won the Doha tournament in 2012 (beating Australia’s Samantha Stosur 6-1, 6-2 in the final) and in 2013 (seeing off Serena Williams of the United State 7-6, 2-6, 6-3).
