Khatyn Memorial launches exhibition to celebrate its architect

The Khatyn State Memorial Complex will launch the exhibition “War took everything away from me but love” on 19 March. It will present personal belongings of Leonid Levin, an architect and one of the memorial's creators, BelTA learned from the administration of the memorial complex.

“This exhibition project will display rare materials of the war and post-war period, exploring the theme of memory, art and human feelings during war. The exhibition will show photographs, documents, personal belongings of architect Leonid Levin, one of the creators of the Khatyn memorial,” said Marina Vashkevich, head of the department of research and exhibition work.

Visitors will be able to see touching children's drawings that the architect sent to his father at the front. The exhibition pays special attention to the letters to the front written more than 80 years ago, which became a symbol of hope and the connection between soldiers and their families.

“It is the letters to the front that allow us to comprehend the tragedy of war and the power of love that can overcome any trials. For the first time we will show the doll that Leonid Levin gave to his daughter after being awarded the Lenin Prize for the Khatyn memorial. This touching exhibit symbolizes not only family values, but also how historical events are intertwined with personal destinies. Personal belongings and documents give us an opportunity to get an insight into the inner world of the architect, his connection with the history and memory of the people,” Marina Vashkevich noted.

The project will be of interest to a wide range of visitors, including historians, art historians, students and history lovers.
