Lukashenko sees light at 'end of the tunnel' in Ukraine

I hope that we will see some kind of resolution to the war in Ukraine this year., Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told the media in Minsk on 26 January, BelTA has learned.

“There will be some kind of resolution this year. I'm not saying the war will end and everything will be fine. It will take a lot of time to mend relations. But there will be a settlement. We will see the light at the end of the tunnel this year,” the head of state said.

“We are advocates of peace in Ukraine. They have to take everybody's interests into account now. Russia's position. It is essential. The United States will not be able to force Russia. Trump is not an idiot, not a fool, he will not deal with Putin in this way. If he does, it will backfire. You can't push us around . We have our own interests. Russia even more so. But we don't want war, we don't want people to die. Because millions will die. Who needs it?” the head of state said.  “We must stop the war now. This is in the interests of Europe first of all. They understand it, but they must uncouple from the U.S. ‘aircraft carrier’.”
