Belarus, Uzbekistan interested in upgrading inter-parliamentary contacts

Belarus and Uzbekistan would like to intensify and upgrade inter-parliamentary cooperation, Chairman of the Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Sergei Aleinik told journalists, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian delegation led by Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova is on an official visit to Uzbekistan. These days, the 2nd edition of the Uzbekistan-Belarus Women's Business Forum is taking place in Tashkent. Belarus is represented by about 100 entrepreneurs and government officials. On the first day of the forum, six thematic sections were held: mechanical engineering, light industry, agriculture, chemistry and woodworking, healthcare and educational services, tourism. A plenary session took place on 27 August.

“We have discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda. This is not only inter-parliamentary contacts as such, but also cooperation in trade and economy, in social and humanitarian matters, education, healthcare, and tourism. We agreed to upgrade the level of our inter-parliamentary cooperation,” said Sergei Aleinik.

“Uzbekistan suggested meeting twice a year to discuss progress in integration and investment, with an ultimate goal to ramp up trade between our countries,” added Leonid Zayats, Chairman of the Standing Committee for Regional Policy and Local Self-Government of the Council of the Republic. “We must cooperate, invest in the areas of mutual interest. Perhaps, we will be able to sell our jointly made products outside the CIS.”

A number of cooperation documents were signed during the plenary session of the Uzbekistan-Belarus Women's Business Forum on 27 August. In particular, Kamvol and Dilfuza Dizayn signed contracts to provide sewing services, SvetlogorskKhimvolokno and Apiteks penned contracts to supply arselon thread. Belarusian Leather and Footwear Company Marko and Premium Capital Group also concluded a contract. Kamvol and Len Patrokl agreed to supply fabrics, Kupalinka and Class Tex Production signed a contract to supply knitted fabric. A contract between Krasny Pischevik and Divider-metall provides for the shipment of confectionery products. A roadmap to expand cooperation in maternal and child health in 2024-2026 was signed between the Minsk City Executive Committee and the Tashkent City Khokimiyat.
