Lukashenko: Accomplishments of Belarusian scientists should not remain a pretty showpiece

Accomplishments of Belarusian scientists should not remain a pretty showpiece. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed it out during a ceremony held at the Palace of Independence on 26 January to present certificates of doctor of sciences and professor certificates to scientists and pedagogues, BelTA has learned.

The head of state stressed: “My wishes and valediction to you are also traditional and extremely concrete. Scientific accomplishments should not remain a pretty showpiece. We cannot allow works of our scientists to be shelved or to accumulate dust in libraries. These works are already in demand in manufacturing enterprises, healthcare institutions, and classrooms. I address these words mostly to our executives, who are present here. It is applied nature of scientific research that determines the reliability and well-being of our common home – Belarus, that bolsters our independence and national security.”

“Stay on the edge of scientific inquiry, develop the national scientific schools. Create the future of native Belarus,” the Belarusian leader told the scientists.

The president congratulated Belarus’ entire scientific community on the upcoming professional holiday – Belarusian Science Day. “I know how hard your work is. I once had a chance to get close to it. I didn’t get involved but I was close to it. Things didn’t go further because I realized that science is not my life’s calling. It happened a very long time ago but since then as I come into contact with scientists, I’ve realized I did the right thing. A most difficult kind of work. And those, who reach the top, deserve the deepest honor and respect,” the Belarusian leader stated.
